Interior design trends of 2023. 15 essential decorating looks for the year, from materials to mood
Interior design trends shape how we decorate and style our homes From colors to textures, accessories to building materials.
The interior design trends of 2023 are vast and varied. There are new colors, new textures and new materials, but most importantly there are new moods. Most moods tend to revolve around either relaxation or fun and patterned decorative delights.
INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS IN 2023
1. GOLDEN SHADES
Glimmering like a sunset, this delightfully warm and linen shade elevates interiors with a touch of pure luxury. Bethan Gray used it on furniture, Arflex has it on chairs, and it shines brightly on this wallpaper by Kirkby, who collaborated with global fashion house Eley Kishimito for this collection.
The design team says this print was inspired by "the effect of multiple folded paper airplanes in flight," created by arranging basic geometric shapes to create an overall complex design. And it's pretty charming, isn't it?
2. COMFORTABLE SEATS
Furniture designers have recognized the opportunity to bring people together again, and this new era of furniture design sees a selection of seating aimed at encouraging the art of personal conversation.
A prime example is Vis-à-Vis by Philippe Nigrofor Ligne Roset. With its matt black lacquered frame and bold blue upholstery, it's curvaceous, modern and allows two people to sit apart but still feel like they're next to each other.
Neither a sofa nor two individual chairs. And while it will turn heads as a piece of beauty, it's actually designed so that users don't need to turn their heads at all. Time to let the conversation continue.
3. 1960's STYLE MULTI-STRINGS
Over the last few years, armchairs seem to have taken off a bit (pardon the pun). It feels like people chose the velvet sofa and the jewel-toned love seat, somewhat ignoring the beauty of one low-level armchair.
However, there's a feeling this is about to change as designers, and especially Italian designers we're talking about, are bringing some pretty tasty looks to the foreaccent chair design. They all have something in common. Inspired by the lines, materials and colors of the 1960s, here's the creme de la creme to slip into and then back out of.
Porada's Copine Bergere chair has a nice high backrest (ergonomically it's a dream) and you can specify it with either removable fabric or a reinforced leather cover. Previously available with a walnut wood frame (and legs), the Copine Bergere is now also available in Black Nickel versions or – and prepare for a bit of a tongue twister – Brushed Bronze Brass finishes for the frame and legs.
4. PURE WHITE LAMPS
This newlighting trend is all about removing color entirely, instead emphasizing form.
The 642 Visier lamp, made of aluminum and painted in a cool white shade, is a perfect example of this interior design trend. It is definitely not only a lamp but also a piece of sculpture. It looks like it's about to land (clear space on that sideboard), we think this is a futuristic investment piece that will stand the test of time.
5. HERITAGE TILES
An aesthetic with reclaimed or vintage-inspired archival patterns is more popular than ever.
Do you miss the Mediterranean Sea? This is the joy bathroom tiling trends for this highly decorative approach. you can bring a touch of it home. When looking at antique tiles from Southern Spain, look for patina and colors that reflect the colors of the original reclaimed tiles. Use on its own or pair with solid color tiles for a lighter aesthetic.
6. WALL LIGHTS ARE FOCUSED
Superstar designer Tom Dixon recently told Livingetc about the importance of 'washing light', using lamps to cleverly blanket your walls in light, rather than just beaming them down from above.
And it is no coincidence that wall lights are becoming more sculptural, scene-stealing, sensational and stellar. First Laura Gonzalez was a real accent (or should that be an eye-level light?) at Paris Deco Off with her Bosphore ceramic wall lights, above. Available in a mix of earth tones, each ceramic coil is a modern take on the coil trend, incorporating them as jewels in these coveted hues.
Then brands like and Contardi introduced sculptural wall lights that look like works of art. The wall light itself is now stars that hang a little lower than you might expect. Check out this Our edit of the perfect wall lights.
7. MODERN JEWELRY
It happens. we accept curtain trim at Livingetc. Previously discounted as too commercial, the once-genius Samuel and Sons has changed all that with its cutting-edge approach to tentacles, embellishments and finishes.
The brand designs a swirl of iridescent hues that completely transform a room, and we're loving the new Elora trim, whose swirls flip this curtain, adding a pop of unexpected contemporary design that elevates even the dullest corner. Trims As curtain trend: Who would have thought?
8. HIDDEN OFFICES
Hide weekday as smart WFH stations are now hidden. To the unsuspecting eye, they will look like a liquor cabinet, a writing desk, or perhaps an armory. But what they hide is all your work stress and tension, papers and rags.
High-end design brands like Porada make them, and for a sleek, contemporary take on a classic bureau, David Irwin's Davenport is otherworldly beautiful in its simplicity. This full home office is a piece of pale solid oak, furnished only with three concealed brass handles. The traditional angular front is gone, adding enough space for a computer screen, and inside you'll find hidden compartments, a pin board and cable storage. Plus, it doubles as a bar for after-work drinks.
9. COURAGEOUS LIMITATIONS
There's clearly a decorative vibe in the air, as while embellishments are big news in curtains (see above), trims are back with emphasis living room color trends
And they're no longer limited to lying horizontally across the wall, this time it's much more liberal; consider bending around the woodwork or dividing the space into sections. Studio Atkinson's first line of wallpaper borders includes five modernized classic patterns, ready to move around the room in bright colors and unexpected scales.
10. MODERN TROMPE L’OEIL
Literally "to trick the eye," trompe l'oeil is an artistic device or conceit that has been in the artistic landscape for centuries, part display of the artist's skill, part delight for the viewer. It adds a bit of unexpected humor to the home, a talking point that will have both you and your guests raving about the fun, something that goes perfectly with modern living room trends.
Bonaldo's New Perspective Mirror, above, plays with depth and perspective, giving the illusion of a room beyond the mirror and leaving space for the imagination of the person standing in front of it. The lines that decorate it are drawn directly on the reflective surface and naively reproduce an additional environment than the reflected one.
12. ARCHES
When we designed the Arch tile collection for Bert and May, we felt that arches were just around the corner, so to speak. And it seems we were right. Arched Doors made big news architecture trends for expansion and repair, while gentle curves soften the hardened edges that have grown so long.
"Going back to Roman times, arches suddenly seem very modern," says Pip Rich, editor of Livingetc. “I'm excited to use our Livingetc tiles from Bert and May for my own bathroom renovation in 2022 as they add grandeur while remaining friendly. You can't help but relax in a space with curved edges."
Use as a motif if you're decorating, or as a shape for windows and doors if you're renovating.
13. CORK FLOOR
Forget 1970s orange cork tilescork flooring is back and better than ever. Because of its eco credentials and the ease of its sustainable supply, it is actually for 2022 is one of the main flooring trends available in different shades.
Cork has natural thermal properties which means it is great for insulation and can be a much cheaper alternative underfloor heating. Which means its eco points don't stop accumulating just as it's made. "It means a reduction in energy consumption and utility bills," says Silvie Stoyanova, a consultant at Bricoflor flooring company.
14. FIXED TABLE LAMPS
Let's be honest, a shelf labeled "USB bulb" in a gadget store has never held much appeal. Fortunately, taste and technology have moved from sometimes gimmicky, most often uninspiring rechargeable lighting solutions to the exciting new portable lamp design dimension of our favorite brands, energizing 2022's Lighting Trends :
"With no cables to act as a pesky anchor, it's no wonder wireless lamps are gaining popularity," says Rohan Black, founder of Pooky. “Built into a kitchen drawer as a piece to admire, placed in a bathroom to create a members' club feel, designed as part of a dining table, laid out or brought out into your patio as the evenings draw in, our new way of living. portable lamps provide much-needed all-round flexibility.”
Italian luxury furniture group Ethimo has launched a rechargeable table lamp for its existing tactile Gaia lighting collection, below. Teak bases in colorful linen shades provide an unexpected rustic contrast to the smart technology associated with portable lamps.
